Cookie Policy
Last updated Oct 1, 2026
A cookie is a small file a website stores in your browser. Sites can also keep information in the browser’s local storage, which works the same way for you. This page lists everything easyportugalnow.com stores in your browser, cookie or not, and what needs your consent first.
The short version
- Reading the articles stores nothing in your browser. Once you answer the cookie banner, your answer is saved there.
- Audience measurement (Google Analytics) and its cookies run only if you click Accept.
- There are no advertising cookies, no ad networks, no social media pixels, and no embedded videos or maps.
Stored without asking, because it is needed
Your cookie choice. When you click Accept or Refuse in the banner, the site saves your answer in your browser’s local storage under the name epn-consent, with the value “granted” or “denied”, so it does not ask you again on every page. It is not a cookie and it is never sent to us. It stays until you change your choice or clear this site’s data in your browser. Nothing is saved until you click one of the two buttons.
Portugal Navigator sign-in. If you have a Portugal Navigator account and sign in, a sign-in cookie named __Host-epn_session keeps you signed in. It is set only when you sign in, can be read only by our site, lasts at most 400 days and is renewed as you use the Navigator, and is deleted when you sign out.
Sign-in step. When you ask for a sign-in code, the site sets a short cookie named __Host-epn_pre that ties the code to the browser that asked for it. It can be read only by our site and lasts 10 minutes at most.
Your Portugal Navigator plan. The Navigator saves what you enter (your profile, household, documents and progress) in your browser’s local storage, under names that start with epn_, so the app works for you. It never leaves your device. It stays until you erase it from your account page or clear this site’s data, which also erases your plan, so export a copy first.
The law does not require consent for these four, because each one is strictly needed for something you asked for.
Stored only if you accept: audience measurement
When audience measurement is switched on, a banner asks for your choice on your first visit. Only if you click Accept does the site load Google Analytics 4 from Google’s servers, which then sets these cookies:
| Cookie | What it does | How long |
|---|---|---|
_ga |
Tells one browser from another with a random number, so a visit counts once | 2 years |
_ga_ followed by our Analytics ID |
Keeps track of the current visit | 2 years |
Those are the durations Google sets by default. We use the figures only to count visits and see which articles help. The privacy policy explains what Google records and how long it keeps it.
If you click Refuse, or ignore the banner, the Google script is never loaded: no cookie is set and nothing is sent to Google. The site uses Google’s Consent Mode, which keeps measurement off by default until you accept.
When audience measurement is switched off, as it can be on our side, no banner appears and nothing is measured or stored.
How to change your choice
- When audience measurement is on, the Cookie settings link at the bottom of every page opens the banner again. Click Accept or Refuse; your new choice applies at once.
- If you withdraw your consent, the
_gacookies already in your browser stay there, unused, until they expire. To remove them now, delete this site’s cookies in your browser settings. - Clearing all of this site’s data in your browser also resets your choice, signs you out of the Portugal Navigator and erases the plan stored in that browser.
Other sites
Payment for the Portugal Navigator happens on Stripe’s own checkout pages, where Stripe sets its own cookies to secure the payment and prevent fraud, under Stripe’s cookie policy. Sites we link to, including our partners, set their own cookies once you visit them. This policy does not cover them.
Changes
If we ever add something that stores information in your browser, such as an embedded video or map, we update this page first and ask for your consent where the law requires it. The date at the top shows the current version.
